The worlds favourite
food and beverage app

The Golden Arches have long symbolised innovation in fast food, yet the pandemic introduced new challenges as McDonald’s worked to keep pace with shifting consumer demands. In close collaboration with McDonald’s leadership, we developed a transformative app to support their transition to e-commerce, allowing customers to order meals safely and conveniently.

This approach was designed not only to meet immediate consumer needs but create sustainable impact, operational efficiencies, and revenue growth across European markets. The initiative aligned McDonald’s strategy with customer expectations, paving the way for a resilient, future-proof service model.

Ba - da - ba - ba - ba !

To bring this vision to life, we partnered closely with McDonald's digital and regional teams, gathering in-depth user insights and identifying key operational needs.

By incorporating flexible features and building a new design system, that included options like contactless ordering, mobile payments, and personalised menu choices, the app provided a streamlined experience that could be easily adapted for local European markets.

Our team led iterative rounds of user testing and collaborated with supply chain teams to ensure seamless fulfilment, addressing the dual challenges of efficiency, accessibility and and rapid scale.

The outcome

The app redefined the customer experience, achieving widespread adoption and positive feedback across Europe. It provided customers with a safer way to enjoy McDonald's during the pandemic driving significant increases in engagement and order volume, contributing to robust revenue growth and setting a model for the U.S. to follow.

This robust approach laid the foundation for McDonald's to benefit from an adaptable and highly scalable e-commerce platform, well-positioned to meet future consumer expectations. The design system remains in place to this day, with the latest iteration going live this year — ensuring ongoing consistency and innovation.
